In the 80s, but not defined by the 80s.
Brubaker and Phillips are at it again with another excellent installment in the Reckless series! This time set in the 80s against some really bad dudes, Ethan takes on a mystery from the Hollywood underbelly that will shake up his whole life. Beautifully written, beautifully drawn, this book is a great sophomore edition to the pulpy franchise.

An awesome, feel good story for 2021!
What happens when you mix the Hunger Games with the 2004 Vince Vaughn film, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story? Well, believe it or not, it's probably this book from French filmmaker, Merwan. But don't be deceived by this peculiar summary - this book is a pleasure to read, with incredible storytelling, beautiful artwork, and engaging character development that will you have you fist pumping the air with each page turn. We promise, this is one you won't want to skip out on.
A throwback to the pulp-style books of yore.
Look here, Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips - you guys are seriously killing this whole quarantine thing. Not only did we get PULP not long ago, we now have the start of a whole series of graphic novels on the way, with this being the first introduction to Ethan Reckless and his associates. Could y'all quit making the rest of us look bad, please? (But don't stop making stuff, it's all great, really.)
This is not the Gerard Butler Dracula, we promise.
So, uh, if you're not a fan of the f-word, this is probably not the review for you - it's pretty hard to avoid when it's in the title of the book! But if you can look past that, you'll find an excellent horror graphic novel that subverts standard tropes and holds some of the best artwork Erica Henderson has ever produced. I mean, who doesn't love a 'dude in distress,' amiright?
Neo-Western without the depression spiral.
Our first stand-alone edition of 'Graphic Novelties,' where we discuss graphic novels, both new and old, that we think you should know about. This week, we're discussing the new Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips book, 'PULP,' and all it's neo-western glory. A book Ed didn't even really want to make (thanks for prodding him, Sean!), this is an excellent tale with beautiful art. Time to add something a little heftier to your comic buy!
