Oh heavens, there's some real heavy talk up in this episode. Political commentary, moral quandaries, emotional turmoil - important books make us have important discussions, but take solace in the fact that we still end with a debate on flare leg jeans, okay?

Indie titles are really flexing on taking older tropes and stories and completely flipping them upside down. This week, we've got a "super" spin on post-apocalyptic wastelands, a bloody take on horror anthologies, the corporate prequel to the zombie sequel, and the hidden figures behind good old Supes' himself. Man, we love indie books. The movie is better than this gif, we swear.
Another edition of our segment the Secret Shortbox, where we theorize what our favorite authors would be reading off the comics rack! This week, we're giving our picks for the mother of modern monsters herself, Mary Shelley!
It's like 'The Girl On the Train' meets 'Bolt.'

Themes in comics tend to come in waves (vampires, anyone?), so when we get a few books that shift the tide into untouched waters, it's a nice reprieve. This week has all sorts of time periods, perspectives, and purposes - and it's definitely appreciated. I mean, buying SOME stuff is okay...

We're back from break and boy were there some great titles this week! Whether you're looking for something adorable, something dark, or something regal, there are all sorts of options. 'Tis the season to be creeped out by haunted houses, apparently! Between a no-end-home experience in Home Sick Pilots #1, to the mysterious mind-games (pun intended) from Cullen Bunn's one-shot 'Piecemeal,' there's a whole lot of horror going on. And, as always, we are more than here for it. We desperately need a more meta Fantastic Four.

Jeez Louise, talk about a hefty week! Two new crossovers began this week - one that seems like it could be "the big one," and one that's... a little more generic. Plus, an excellent F4 one-shot, the start of Batman/Catwoman, and some cool new indie titles. Hope you're ready for a heavy read list! |
